Sharon Sawchuk has worked in Career and Employment services and Community Development for thirty years with a focus on Indigenous programming.   In her hometown of Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, she began working with the Indigenous programs at Lakeland College and later with the Friendship Centres of Alberta and community boards as an advocate for Indigenous programs and services.

In 2003, her family moved to Okotoks, Alberta and she began to work with the Labour Market Development Program under the Métis Nation of Alberta. Sharon has held various senior positions within the Labour Market Program.

In 2010, the Métis Nation of Alberta developed an affiliate organization known as the Rupertsland Institute.  Rupertsland Institute, bestowed with a tri-part mandate by the Métis Nation of Alberta, works to enhance the self-sufficiency of the Métis clients through education, training and research.  As part of the Rupertsland team, Sharon provides oversight of the Training mandate as the Associate Director of Training.
