Indigenous Economic Prosperity - Navigating Equity and Calls to Action

Workshop| 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM

Workshop Description

Increasingly, supporting Indigenous Economic Prosperity has become a goal for employers and organizations across Canada. To understand the merit and learn the pathways to supporting Indigenous economic prosperity, we need to look at nation to nation agreements like the Treaties, foundational documents such as the Canadian Constitution Section 35 (1982), Truth and Reconciliation 94 Calls to Action (2015), the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (2007), and strategy documents such as the National Indigenous Economic Strategy for Canada (2022)  – they provide us with essential frameworks for relationships and engagement that addresses recruitment, retention, and target equity goals. In this session Dr. Ottmann will provide a historical context of partnerships and foundational frameworks that can inspire, and support Indigenous economic growth and strengthen Canada, all in a good way.
