Biography
Sashia Leung is currently the Director of Communications and International Relations with the British Columbia Treaty Commission. She has worked extensively with the Indigenous communities and the public throughout BC, and internationally through her experience with the three United Nations bodies responsible for Indigenous Peoples rights and interests. Sashia has assisted Expert Members and Indigenous Peoples Organizations at the United Nations, at the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues and the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
Sashia is a proud Wet’suwet’en, Chinese woman from the Wet’suwet’en Nation in northern BC. Her personal mission is to advance intergenerational empowerment through reconciliation and Indigenous rights and self-governance.
Her academic and professional work has focused on the protection and advancement of Indigenous rights, governance and capacity development, reconciliation, community engagement, and education. Sashia holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a focus on First Nations studies from the University of British Columbia. She has served on numerous boards and committees including the Nicola Valley Institute of Technology Board of Governors, CRE (Canadian Roots Exchange), Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver Board of Directors. Sashia is also a member of the Banff Forum and the Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Conference.
