Meet Michelle:

Michelle Francis-Denny joined Bird Construction in January 2023 as the Manager of Indigenous Relations and Community Engagement (East), an integral role within the company’ fast growing Indigenous Relations team who are leading and operationalizing Bird’s Indigenous Engagement Policy nationally. Her role involves cross-functional support to project teams, ensuring that engagement strategies are effectively implemented and aligned with both company values and community needs.

Michelle lives and works from her home in Mi’kma’ki, in Pictou Landing First Nation. Prior to joining Bird Construction, Michelle held managerial roles within her own community working in the areas of employment, training, and development.  She also spent 5 years as the Liaison for the Boat Harbour Remediation Project, this project garnered national attention that contributed to the closure of the effluent treatment facility that plagued her community for more than 50 years. Michelle’s experience working with the province and Industry ignited her passion to building relationships and led her to engage in senior roles focused on enriching Indigenous relations within the corporate landscape. 

Michelle achieved an MBA in Indigenous Business Leadership from Simon Fraser University and most recently completed the Tribal Leadership Program at Harvard Business School in Cambridge. Mass., she is a member of various Indigenous-led, national and regional advisory committees. Michelle is passionate about Call to Action #92, Economic reconciliation. Creating spaces and meaningful opportunities between Indigenous communities and Industry is the foundation of her work.
