Meet Leona:

Leona Bird Teepee Woman (Notake Wikamik) is of Cree and Hungarian descent and is from the George Gordon First Nation within Treaty 4 in Southern Saskatchewan.   She is Kokum Bird of 23 grandchildren and resides in Saskatoon.  Leona has been with ATCO since 2012 and has held a variety of progressively senior roles, having worked in 3 provinces and 4 camps.

In her current role, she is the Auntie in Residence (a pilot project), which is a support role for Indigenous staff at Jansen Discovery Lodge in SK.  As Auntie, her role is to mentor and provide a safe and comfortable space for Indigenous employees to practice their spirituality. It also includes a cultural footprint.  Through Elders, Indigenous art and décor, artifacts, photos, and indigenous films and books, these key approaches assist in the retention of Indigenous employees.
