Meet Christy:

Christy Morgan (she/her) is a proud First Nations woman from the St’uxwtéws (Bonaparte) Band, which is a part of the Secwepemc (Shuswap) Nation, in British Columbia. She holds a Degree in Social Work from the University of Calgary, She currently is employed with TELUS as the Reconciliation Strategy Manager. Where she works within a team to support various TELUS business units and organize to embed Reconciliation, meaningful relationships and Indigenous paradigm into the work. She has worked for 24+ years in the area of community development and relations building with the urban Indigenous community in Calgary and area and cherishes the friendships and relationships that have grown from this. She was named one of the Top 40 Under 40 by Avenue Magazine in 2011, recognized by the Government of Canada’s Urban Aboriginal Strategy for her work in 2012, awarded the Dr. Douglas Cardinal award for Community Leadership in 2015 by the University of Calgary Student Association and Native Centre, the 2021 Chief David Crowchild recipient and awarded a Changemaker award by the Urban Society for Aboriginal Youth (USAY) in 2022. Christy was also named by the Calgary Herald as one of the Top 20 Compelling Calgarians to watch in 2022. Christy sits on a variety of committees and boards in Calgary such as: Aboriginal Standing Committee on Housing and Homelessness (ASCHH) Community Advisory Board, Aboriginal Awareness Week Opening Ceremonies (AAWOC), Calgary Foundation: Arts and Heritage Committee, Correctional Services Canada Citizens Advisory Committee, Nurturing Beginnings, United Way of Calgary Board of Directors, CCVO Board and others. Christy is proud to have had the experiences she has had over her career. From starting her work off in-home supports, to working with youth involved in the justice system to community development in Indigenous collective work under the (former) Calgary Urban Aboriginal Initiative. She is very grateful for the Elders, Knowledge Keepers, community members and mentors she has had. Each of them have led her to grow and strive for more positive outcomes for our communities.
