Biography

Christopher is a member of the Nuxálk Nation of Bella Coola, British Columbia.  Born in Bella Coola and raised in New Westminster, British Columbia, Christopher has had a successful career in Indigenous Engagement and his primary goal is to help BGIS build connections with Indigenous Communities and Companies in the West. Christopher started his career in the 1980’s coaching Junior hockey in British Columbia and in Europe.  In 1991 he joined the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) at Matsqui Institution in Abbotsford, British Columbia as a Correctional Officer and progressed through the ranks culminating in his appointment as Parole Officer in 1996.  Christopher transferred to Kamloops, British Columbia in 1998 where he served until his retirement from the CSC in 2016 after 25 years of service.  Christopher received the Distinguished Service Award from the CSC in 2011. In 2016, Christopher accepted the role of Assistant Deputy Warden-Programs with the BC Adult Custody Corrections Department at the Okanagan Correctional Centre (OCC) in Oliver, British Columbia.  In 2018 Christopher joined the Tk’emlups te Secwepemc (Kamloops Indian Band) as Indigenous Justice Coordinator and in 2020 he joined Surerus Murphy Joint Venture as the Indigenous Relations Liaison on the Trans Mountain Expansion Project. The common thread woven throughout Christopher’s career is his desire to improve outcomes for Indigenous people, communities and businesses through his work.
